Vancouver Indigenous Fashion Week

Fashion expresses identity, place and personal creativity. Contemporary indigenous fashion mixes the legacy of indigenous artistry with modern day high regalia and street styles; it goes beyond surface beauty and highlights how worn identity can build connection with indigenous values, wisdom, empowerment and history.
VIFW is to bring global recognition to Indigenous fashion and designers. Vancouver Indigenous Fashion Week showcases the power and beauty of authentic indigenous art and design by supporting talent development and organizing showcases throughout the year. VIFW the four-day event is being produced by Joleen Mitton, She  was a model who traveled the world for work and Mitton later on decided to combine her culture and fashion smarts to launch Vancouver Indigenous Fashion Week in an effort to bring the storytelling and resilience of modern indigenous fashion into the spotlight in an honest way.

I  atended the  VIFW on the third day November 20th. Some of the indegenous designers were on the show including but not limited Tyler Jacobs, Teresa Walker, Kelly Edzerza Bapty, Alicia Stephens, Mobilize and it is privileged to watch these talanted fashion designers on the runway with their designs.
If you like Indigenous esthetic, buy it from those who create it and live it!!
